Since you're doing this project to become a better cartoonist, I thought I'd offer my two cents: I didn't see any relationship between frame 1 and frame 2, so I didn't know the man at the bank had written the business plan that he was using to get the loan.

Perhaps a better way to depict the scene would be to have one frame with the man sitting at a desk, then another frame with the list under his hand holding a pencil, and the last frame at the bank. Just something to make the connection more obvious.

I have no experience writing comics, just reading them, so take this all with a grain of salt. Congrats on the $1/day project.

Believe it or not, I don’t consider this too bad a start. The main goal today was to get familiar with manipulating a scanned sketch in a graphics program so I could do placements, colorization and the like. The drawing is nothing special, but considering that I’ve never really drawn anything besides lop-sided smiley faces, I don’t think it’s horrible.

The joke itself came from my first experience approaching a bank for a business loan. Neither my partner nor myself had any idea what would be involved, and we were a little caught off guard when they asked us for a business plan. We spent the next few weeks feverishly trying to figure out what one was. We eventually came up with something; it was probably fifteen pages long, but didn’t really have anymore substance than the one above.
When I was thinking about jokes tonight, it occurred to me that I’m probably going to end up trying to tell a lot of jokes that are based on things that I personally found funny in my own life. Of course, they’ll always seem funnier to me since I know the background on the joke. You guys are just going to have to cope.
